This refers to mental disorders that accompany physical illnesses such as high fever, metabolic disorders, autointoxication, and endocrine disorders. The core symptoms are amentia, delirium, and stupor, and hallucinations, irritable emotional collapse, and Korsakoff's syndrome also appear. These symptoms are seen regardless of the type of physical illness, and were described by K. Bonhoeffer in 1912 as exogenous reaction types. Currently, manic-depressive and schizophrenic states are also included. Those with primary lesions in the brain are distinguished as organic psychoses, and those with toxic disorders as toxic psychoses, but because of conceptual confusion with symptomatic psychoses, these are sometimes lumped together as mental illnesses with a physical basis (K. Schneider, 1950). Source: Heibonsha World Encyclopedia, 2nd Edition Information |
