SBR - Styrene-butadiene rubber

Japanese: SBR - エスビーアール（英語表記）styrene-butadiene rubber

The most representative synthetic rubber with properties similar to natural rubber. It is made by emulsion polymerization of styrene and butadiene. It has versatile properties and accounts for 60% of synthetic rubber consumption. It is divided into hot rubber and cold rubber depending on the temperature during polymerization, but about 80% of the total is cold rubber polymerized at 5°C. It is characterized by oil resistance, abrasion resistance, and aging resistance, and is used for automobile tires and footwear. There are also carbon-containing SBR, oil-containing SBR, lignin-containing SBR, and high styrene SBR.

天然ゴムに近い性質をもった最も代表的な合成ゴム。スチレンとブタジエンの乳化重合によってつくられる。汎用的性質があり，合成ゴムの消費量の 60%を占める。重合の際の温度によってホットラバーとコールドラバーに分けられるが，全体の約 80%は5℃で重合させたコールドラバーである。耐油性，耐摩耗性，耐老化性などが特長で，自動車タイヤや履物に用いる。またカーボン入り SBRと油入り SBR，リグニン入り SBR，ハイスチレン SBRなどがある。
