1725‐85 A Chinese poet and playwright from the Qing Dynasty. His pen name was Xinyu and was also called Chusheng. His pen names were Qingrong and Zangyuan. He was from Yanshan, Jiangxi. He was a Jinshi in the 22nd year of the Qianlong era (1757). He became an editor at the Hanlin Academy. He later served as head of the Shaoxing Shuishan Academy, the Hangzhou Chongwen Academy, and the Anding Academy in Yangzhou, and was also a compiler for the National History Institute. He studied the poetry of Kobunji and the drama of Tang Xianzu. He is considered the leading playwright of the Qianlong period, and is known for the Nine Pieces of Zangyuan, including "A Piece of Stone" and "Four Strings and Autumn."
