Takako Irie - Takako Irie

A film actress. Her real name was Higashibojo Hideko. She was born in Tokyo. She was of aristocratic origin and after graduating from Bunka Gakuin, she appeared on the stage of new dramas in the Kansai region. In 1927 (Showa 2), she joined Nikkatsu and made her debut in "The Stingy Millionaire". Her modern beauty and elegance made her an instant superstar. She then moved to Shinko Kinema and Toho, during which time she founded Irie Productions and had a brilliant career, starring in "The White Thread of the Waterfall" (1933), "The Messenger from the Moon" (1934), "A Woman from the Meiji Era" (1935), and "Tojuro's Love" (1938). After World War II, she took supporting roles and also appeared in Daiei's "Monster Cat" film. She retired in 1958 (Showa 33), but was later invited to appear in films by directors Akira Kurosawa and Kon Ichikawa.

映画俳優。本名東坊城英子(ひがしぼうじょうひでこ)。東京生まれ。華族の出身で文化学院を卒業後、関西で新劇の舞台にたったが、1927年（昭和2）日活に入社して『けちんぼ長者』に初出演。近代的な美貌(びぼう)と気品により一躍大スターの地位を獲得した。以後、新興キネマ、東宝に転じ、この間入江プロを創立するなど華々しく活躍、『滝の白糸』（1933）、『月よりの使者』（1934）、『明治一代女』（1935）、『藤十郎(とうじゅうろう)の恋』（1938）などに主演したが、第二次世界大戦後は脇役(わきやく)に回り、大映の怪猫映画にも出演した。1958年（昭和33）引退したが、その後も黒澤明、市川崑(こん)監督に請われた出演作がある。
