The chemical formula is Cd(NO 3 ) 2 . It is obtained by dissolving cadmium carbonate CdCO 3 in nitric acid HNO 3 and evaporating it. There are salts with 0, 2, and 4 waters of crystallization. When crystallized at room temperature, the tetrahydrate is obtained. All are colorless crystals. The melting point of the anhydrous hydrate is 350°C. When the tetrahydrate is heated, it dissolves in the water of crystallization at 59.4°C to form an aqueous solution. The tetrahydrate is an orthorhombic crystal system. It is deliquescent. Its solubility in water is 127g/100g (18°C). It is also soluble in alcohol, acetone, and ethyl acetate. It is practically insoluble in concentrated nitric acid.
