Japanese: 醮 - しょう（英語表記）jiào

A Taoist ritual in China. According to the Preface to the Taoist Classic in the Book of Sui, the ritual of 'Taoism' is a way to ward off disasters. It involves arranging offerings such as wine and dried meat under the stars at night, worshiping the Emperor Taiyi and the Five Stars, and submitting a document to the emperor. Later, it was combined with the ritual of 'Monoimi' and called 'Saiko', and the document submitted during this ritual was called 'Qingshi'. After the Tang and Song dynasties, it was widely performed as a representative Taoist ritual, and even in modern times, the Yellow Lou Lou for saving the dead, the Golden Lou Lou for the emperor, and the Luo Tian Da Lou for saving all were performed.

中国における道教の祭祀の一つ。《隋書》経籍志の道経序録によれば，醮とは災厄を消除する方法の一つで，夜中，星空の下で酒や乾肉などの供物を並べ，天皇太一や五星列宿を祭り，文書を上奏する儀礼をいう。のちには斎(ものいみ)の儀礼と結合して斎醮と呼ばれ，この斎醮の際に上奏する文書を青詞といった。唐･宋以後，道教の代表的な祭祀として広く行われ，近代になっても，亡霊を救済する黄籙醮（こうろくしよう），帝王のための金籙醮，あまねくいっさいを救済する羅天大醮などが行われた。
