Kihachiro Kawamoto
1925-2010 A puppet animation creator from the late Showa to Heisei era.
Born on January 11, 1925. After working at Toho Studios, he founded a commercial production company in 1958 and began making puppet animations. In 1963, he studied under Trnka in Czechoslovakia. After returning to Japan, he released works such as "Oni" (1947), "Dojoji" (1951), and "Fire House" (1954). He was in charge of puppet art for the NHK TV puppet shows "Romance of the Three Kingdoms" (1982) and "Shin Heike Monogatari" (1993). In 2004, he won the Grand Prize in the Animation Division of the Japan Media Arts Festival, organized by the Agency for Cultural Affairs, for his renku animation "Winter Days." He passed away on August 23, 2010, at the age of 85. He was born in Tokyo and graduated from Yokohama Technical College (now Yokohama National University).
