...The name Soshian was given to him by Fujitani Munehito of the Urasenke school. Composing kouta was a hobby of the sophisticated people of the time, but he joined the group at the recommendation of his friend, the kabuki actor Ichikawa Mishou (the 10th Ichikawa Danjūrō, who also wrote kouta lyrics), and composed nearly 300 kouta songs. Because he had a background in nagauta and kiyomoto, his style incorporated geza music in the instrumental parts, and his songs were characterized by a Bungo-bushi style of melody.
