Kitagawa [village] - Kitagawa

Japanese: 北川[村] - きたがわ
Kitagawa [village] - Kitagawa
A village in Aki District, eastern Kochi Prefecture. Population 1,650 (1995). It borders Muroto City to the south and Tokushima Prefecture to the northeast. The Nahari River flows south through the center, with a small amount of cultivated land along the coast and scattered settlements. Almost the entire area is covered by forest, where cedar and cypress are produced, as well as the greenhouse cultivation of the local specialty yuzu. Since the 1960s, power development has been carried out in the Nahari River system, and power plants have been built in Nagayama, Futamata, and Yanase. Nakaoka Shintaro, a patriot of the late Edo period, was born here. [Hagiwara Tsuyoshi]
