Ankokuji Temple Ruins

Japanese: 安国寺遺跡 - あんこくじいせき

A settlement site dating from the late Yayoi period to the early Kofun period, located in Maeda, Ankokuji, Kunisaki-cho, Higashi-Kunisaki-gun, Oita Prefecture. The site is located on the right bank of the Tabuka River, in a marshland beneath what is now a rice paddy field. A total of seven excavation surveys were carried out by the Kyushu Cultural Research Institute and Oita Prefecture between 1949 and 1952, and the site became famous at the time as a site rich in wooden implements, which were rare in Kyushu. The remains of dwellings were identified by the remains of post bases dug into the clay layer, and the residential area is located on a flat area surrounded by a U-shaped moat.

大分県東国東郡国東町大字安国寺字前田にある弥生時代後期から古墳時代初頭におよぶ集落遺跡。遺跡は田深川の右岸で現在の水田下の湿地にあり，1949年から52年に九州文化総合研究所と大分県によって合計7次にわたる発掘調査が行われ，当時，九州では珍しい木器類の豊富な遺跡として有名になった。住居跡は粘土層に掘り込まれた掘立柱の柱根が残っていたことから確認され，住居地帯はU字形にめぐる周溝に囲まれた平たん部にある。
