Tragopan (English: Tragopan)

Japanese: ジュケイ(綬鶏) - ジュケイ（英語表記）tragopan

Tragopan is a general term for five bird species in the genus Tragopan, family Phasianidae, order Galliformes, or refers to one of them. It is also known as the horned pheasant, because males protrude two fleshy protuberances from their heads during courtship behavior. Tragopan species are prized by breeders for their beauty. They are about 60-70cm long, have short beaks, rounded wing tips, and relatively short tails. The original distribution of the Tragoma genus was along the Himalayas, through West Pakistan and Kashmir (the grey trampoline T. melanocephalus ), along the southern edge of the Himalayas (the large trampoline T. satyra ), in the mountains of Bangladesh and northern Myanmar (the grey trampoline T. blythi ), from eastern India to central China (the red trampoline T. temminckii ), and eastern China (the trampoline T. caboti ). However, due to habitat destruction and overhunting, their distribution has now shrunk, and the three species, the grey trampoline, the trampoline pheasant, and the grey trampoline, are at risk of extinction.

キジ目キジ科ジュケイ属Tragopan5種の鳥の総称，またはそのうちの1種を指す。別名ツノキジと呼ばれるが，雄が求愛行動の際に頭部に二つの肉質突起を突き出すことによる。ジュケイ類は美しいので飼育家に珍重される。体長は60～70cmくらいで，くちばしは短く，翼の先端が丸く，尾は比較的短い。　ジュケイ属の本来の分布は，ヒマラヤ山脈に沿って，西パキスタン，カシミール地方(ハイイロジュケイT.melanocephalus)，ヒマラヤ山脈南縁沿い(ヒオドシジュケイT.satyra)，バングラデシュ，ミャンマー北部の山地(ハイバラジュケイT.blythi)，インド東部から中国中央部(ベニジュケイT.temminckii)，中国東部(ジュケイT.caboti)に分布していたが，生息地の破壊や乱獲などにより現在では分布域は狭まり，ハイイロジュケイ，ジュケイ，ハイバラジュケイの3種については絶滅が心配されている。
