A residential and resort town in the Oise department in the Île-de-France region in northern France. Population 10,902 (1999). It is located 42 km north of Paris, on the northern edge of the Bois de Chantilly, on the banks of the Nonette River. In the 18th century, it was known as a producer of lace and ceramics, and was the headquarters of the French army during World War I. To the northeast of the town is the Château de Chantilly, once the residence of the Duke of Condé (1643-1830) surrounded by beautiful gardens, and now the Musée de Condé (home to the famous Book of Hours Most Sumptuous of the Duke of Berry). To the southwest of the town is a horse racing track, known for its June races and training center. It is also a popular tourist destination.
