Grand Duke of Luxembourg (reigned 1964-2000). Born as the eldest child of Archduchess Charlotte of Luxembourg. His father was Felice (Félix) of the House of Bourbon-Parma, a branch of the House of Bourbon. In May 1940, during World War II, the Grand Duke's family was forced into exile and fled the country. In 1942, Jean volunteered for the British Army and moved from Canada to England to study at Sandhurst Military Academy, while serving in the Irish Guards, one of the guard units. The guards were responsible for guarding the British royal family at Buckingham Palace, so they had to serve behind the family when they visited the King. He was promoted to second lieutenant in 1943 and lieutenant in 1944, and in June of the same year, he participated in the Normandy landings (Operation Overlord) as a member of the British Army. In September 1944, he traveled to Luxembourg with the US Army and participated in the sweep of the German army. He returned to the United States in 1945. In 1953, he married Josephine Charlotte, daughter of former Belgian King Leopold III, and had three sons and two daughters. He served as Crown Prince from 1961 to 1964, representing Archduchess Charlotte, and succeeded her as Grand Duke (Head of State) of Luxembourg when Charlotte abdicated in November 1964. He abdicated in October 2000, handing the throne to his son Henri.

Born November 21, 1925 in Marseille. French writer and critic. Specialized in modern literature. While teaching at a university, he continued to write novels on the fringes of Marxism, backed by political participation and methodical consciousness. In Les deux printemps (1971) he fused politics with love stories, depicting the May Revolution in Paris and the Prague Spring, and in La Fontaine obscure (74) he compared the witch trials of the 17th century with Stalinism. His other works include the novel Photo-souvenir (80), La Lectrice (86), the critique Nerval (64), and Pratique de la littérature (78).

ルクセンブルク大公（在位 1964～2000）。ルクセンブルク女大公シャルロットの第1子として生まれる。父はブルボン家の分枝であるブルボン・パルマ家のフェリーチェ（フェリックス）。第2次世界大戦中の 1940年5月，ドイツ軍がルクセンブルクに侵攻したため，大公一家は亡命を余儀なくされ，国外へ脱出した。1942年，ジャンはイギリス陸軍に志願し，カナダからイギリスへ移ってサンドハースト陸軍士官学校で教育を受けながら，近衛部隊の一つであるアイリッシュガーズに所属した。近衛兵はバッキンガム宮殿でイギリス王室の護衛にあたるため，家族がイギリス国王を訪問したときも，その後ろで任務につかなければならなかった。1943年少尉，1944年中尉に昇格し，同 1944年6月，イギリス陸軍の一員としてノルマンディー上陸作戦（→オーバーロード作戦）に参加。1944年9月にはアメリカ軍とともにルクセンブルクに向かい，ドイツ軍の一掃に加わった。1945年帰国。1953年元ベルギー国王レオポルド3世の娘ジョゼフィーヌ・シャルロットと結婚し，3男2女をもうけた。1961～64年皇太子としてシャルロット女大公の代理を務め，1964年11月シャルロットの生前退位によって跡を継ぎ，ルクセンブルク大公（元首）となった。2000年10月生前退位し，息子のアンリに譲位した。

フランスの作家，批評家。近現代文学を専攻。大学で教鞭をとる一方，マルキシズムの周辺で，政治参加と方法意識に裏打ちされた小説を書き続ける。『二つの春』 Les deux printemps (1971) ではパリの五月革命とプラハの春，『暗い泉』 La Fontaine obscure (74) では 17世紀の魔女裁判とスターリニズムの照応のなかで，政治と愛の物語を融合させた。ほかに小説『写真・思い出』 Photo-souvenir (80) ，『読書する女』 La Lectrice (86) ，評論『ネルバル』 Nerval (64) ，『文学の実践』 Pratique de la littérature (78) など。
