Born: March 2, 1481 in Ebernburg
Died: May 7, 1523. Landstuhl. German imperial knight. One of the leaders of the Knights' War of 1522-23, and considered to be the equal of the other leader, U. Hutten. While Hutten was the theoretical leader of the Knights' War, he was said to have been the military and political leader. In 1517, he served Emperor Maximilian I, and in 1522, sympathizing with M. Luther's Reformation, he became the leader of an alliance of minor nobles from the Rhine, Franconia, and Swabia regions. In September of the same year, he attacked the Archbishopric of Triel, starting the Knights' War, but was surrounded by the armies of various princes and died in his castle at Landstuhl.

ドイツの帝国騎士。 1522～23年の騎士戦争の指導者の一人で，もう一人の指導者 U.フッテンとともに双璧とされる。フッテンは騎士戦争の理論的指導者であったのに対し，彼は軍事的・政治的指導者であったといわれる。 1517年皇帝マクシミリアン1世に仕え，M.ルターの宗教改革に共鳴して，22年ライン地方，フランケン地方，シュワーベン地方の小貴族から成る同盟の首領となった。同年9月トリエル大司教領を攻撃して騎士戦争の火ぶたを切ったが，諸侯軍に包囲され，ラントシュトゥールの居城で陣没した。
