Shabadah [state] - Shabadah
Katanga is a province in the southeastern part of the Democratic Republic of the Congo. It is a plateau region at an altitude of about 1000m, with an average annual temperature of 20℃. It is rich in mineral resources, producing copper, cobalt, tin, zinc, and uranium. Development began in 1891 by the Belgian king's private colony, the Congo Free State, and forced labor was used by Africans. In 1906, Union Minière was established with capital from Belgium and the UK, and monopolized vast lands and mining rights. From immediately after Congo's independence in 1960 until January 1963, it separated from the central government under Tshombe. Belgium intervened and sent troops, making it one of the main stages of the Congo unrest. Due to its mineral resources and historical background, it is an important region in the politics and economy of the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Capital: Lubumbashi. Area: 496,877 km2 . Population: 4,125,000 (1998).
