Awa [town] - Awa

Japanese: 阿波[町] - あわ

A former town in Awa District, northern Tokushima Prefecture. The northern half is mountainous, while the southern half is an alluvial fan in the Yoshino River basin, open for cultivation. The town produces vegetables, rice, wheat, and fruit, and also raises silkworms. The main settlement is the former Hayashi Town, which was a river port for riverboats, and is connected by a bridge to Yamakawa Town on the opposite bank of the Yoshino River. There is a dome pillar (a natural monument). In April 2005, it merged with Yoshino Town and Tonari Town in Itano District, and Ichiba Town in Awa District, to become a city, Awa City. 48.58 ^km2 . Population: 14,044 (2003).

徳島県北部，阿波郡の旧町。北半は山地，南半は吉野川流域の扇状地で耕地が開ける。野菜，米，麦，果樹を産し養蚕も行う。主集落は川舟の河港であった旧林町で，吉野川対岸の山川町と橋で結ばれる。土柱（天然記念物）がある。2005年４月板野郡吉野町，土成町，阿波郡市場町と合併し市制，阿波市となる。48.58km²。１万4044人（2003）。
