[1] 〘Noun〙 A mountain with many pine trees. Shozan. ※Gosen (c. 951-953) Koi 3-760 "If there is no shore and the tide flows, I think that the waves will fall on Matsuyama below (Ise)" [2][1] A place name in the center of Ehime Prefecture. The prefectural capital. In the Edo period, it was a castle town of the Matsudaira clan with 150,000 koku of rice. It has Takahama and Mitsuhama ports, and heavy chemical industries are thriving. The traditional Iyo suri is also produced. There are hot springs such as Dogo and Okudogo. It was established as a city in 1889. [2] It was established as a prefecture in Iyo Province in July 1871 ( Meiji 4 ) when the feudal domains were abolished and prefectures were established. In November of the same year, the prefectures of Imabari, Komatsu, and Saijo were combined with the former Shogunate territories, and the following year it was renamed Sekitetsu Prefecture. In the 6th year of the same year, it was merged with Kamiyama Prefecture to become Ehime Prefecture. [3] The former name of Takahashi City , Okayama Prefecture.

[1] 〘名〙 松の木が多く茂っている山。しょうざん。※後撰(951‐953頃)恋三・七六〇「岸もなく汐しみちなば松山を下にて浪はこさむとぞ思ふ〈伊勢〉」[2][一] 愛媛県中央部の地名。県庁所在地。江戸時代は松平氏一五万石の城下町。高浜・三津浜港があり、重化学工業が盛ん。在来の伊予がすりの生産も行なわれる。道後・奥道後などの温泉がある。明治二二年(一八八九)市制。[二] 明治四年(一八七一)七月の廃藩置県により伊予国に置かれた県。同年一一月、今治・小松・西条の各県と旧幕府領を合わせ、翌年、石鉄(せきてつ)県と改称。同六年に神山県と合体して愛媛県となる。[三] 岡山県高梁(たかはし)市の旧称。
