A general term for a family or genus of the order Chimaera, a class of Chondrichthyes, or the name of one of its species. The family Rhinochimaeridae (longnose chimaeras) is characterized by a protruding sword-like snout, as its name suggests, and three genera are known: Rhinochimaera , Harriotta , and Neoharriotta . Of these, the genus Harriotta is characterized by its mouth being clearly in front of the eyes, the lower lobe of the tail fin being significantly higher than the upper lobe, and the lack of an anal fin. There are three known species in the genus Rhinochimaera, and they can be distinguished by the pale brown-grey body of the Rhinochimaera pacifica , found in the waters off Japan, and the black-brown body of the Rhinochimaera africana . The Atlantic Ocean is home to the Rhinochimaera atlantica .

The Pacific knifenose chimaera, a species of shark, lives near the continental slope at depths of 330 to 1,490 meters and is caught by trawling. It reproduces oviparously, laying flat, oval eggs. It is known from the Sea of ​​Okhotsk and the Pacific Ocean south of Hokkaido in the waters off the coast of Japan, but is also found in the East and South China Seas, southern Australia, New Zealand, and Peru in the eastern Pacific Ocean. It is listed as Least Concern (LC) on the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) Red List (as of August 2021).

軟骨魚綱ギンザメ目の科や属の総称、またはその1種の名称。テングギンザメ科Rhinochimaeridae（英名longnose chimaeras）は、その名のとおり吻(ふん)が剣状に突き出すのが特徴で、テングギンザメ属Rhinochimaera、アズマギンザメ属Harriotta、Neoharriottaの3属が知られている。そのうち、テングギンザメ属は口が目より明らかに前にあること、尾びれの下葉が上葉よりかなり高いこと、臀(しり)びれがないことなどで特徴づけられる。テングギンザメ属には3種が知られ、日本近海のテングギンザメR. pacificaは体が薄い茶灰色であること、クロテングギンザメR. africanaは体色が黒褐色であることでそれぞれ区別できる。大西洋にはニシテングギンザメR. atlanticaが知られている。

　種としてのテングギンザメ（英名Pacific knifenose chimaera）は330～1490メートルの大陸斜面付近にすみ、トロール網で漁獲される。生殖方法は卵生で、平たい楕円(だえん)形の卵を産む。日本近海ではオホーツク海や北海道以南の太平洋から知られているが、東シナ海、南シナ海、オーストラリア南部、ニュージーランド、さらに東部太平洋のペルーに分布する。国際自然保護連合（IUCN）のレッド・リストでは、低懸念（LC）とされている（2021年8月時点）。
