Born: October 30, 1910, Olihuela
[Died] March 28, 1942. Alicante, Spain. Born to a peasant family, he was a poet. He studied on his own while working in agriculture, and his encounter with Spanish classical literature sparked his interest in poetry. His works include the avant-garde poem El rayo que no cese (1936) (The Unending Ray of Light), based on neo-baroque, and El viento del pueblo (36), (The Wind of the People), written to his wife from the battlefields of the civil war. After being captured by Franco's side, his style of poetry changed to a more subdued, spiritual one. He died in prison.

[Died] October 21, 1886. Belgrano, Argentine poet and politician. His representative works El gaucho Martín Fierro (1872) and La vuelta de Martín Fierro (The Return of Martín Fierro) (1879) are considered masterpieces of gaucho poetry.
