Japanese: 下筌ダム - しもうけダム

This dam is located on the Tsue River, a tributary of the Chikugo River, which flows along the border with Oita Prefecture, at the western edge of Oguni Town, Aso District, Kumamoto Prefecture. It is an arch dam for power generation and flood control, with a dam height of 98m, a dam length of 248.2m, and an effective water storage capacity of 52.3 million ^m3 . It was completed in 1972. On the Oita Prefecture side, there is the Shimoike Power Station, with a maximum output of 15,000 kW. It is known for the Hachinosu Castle Incident, in which opponents of the dam occupied and fought over the proposed construction site.

熊本県阿蘇郡小国町西端，大分県との境を流れる筑後川支流津江川にあるダム。発電・洪水調節用アーチダムで，堤高98m，堤長248.2m，有効貯水量5230万m³。1972年完成。大分県側に最大出力1.5万kWの下筌発電所がある。ダム反対派が建設予定地を占拠して争った〈蜂ノ巣城事件〉で知られる。
