This dam is located on the Tsue River, a tributary of the Chikugo River, which flows along the border with Oita Prefecture, at the western edge of Oguni Town, Aso District, Kumamoto Prefecture. It is an arch dam for power generation and flood control, with a dam height of 98m, a dam length of 248.2m, and an effective water storage capacity of 52.3 million m3 . It was completed in 1972. On the Oita Prefecture side, there is the Shimoike Power Station, with a maximum output of 15,000 kW.
