Masanobu Hirauchi - Masanobu Hirauchi

A master carpenter in the early Edo period. Born in Kishu (Wakayama Prefecture). His father Yoshimasa was the founder of a family of carpenters, and his father served the Toyotomi clan and was involved in the construction of the Great Buddha Hall of Hoko-ji Temple and Jurakudai. Masanobu served the Edo Shogunate and became the Shogunate's chief carpenter in 1632 (Kan'ei 9). His five-volume work, Shomei, is famous as a secret book on wood cutting. Among the buildings he worked on are the main hall of Tenmangu Shrine in Wakaura, Wakayama City (1606), the Jodo Hall of Nikko's Rinnoji Temple (1619), the Kawagoe Kitain Temple pagoda (1638), and the stone pagoda of Nikko (1642).

江戸初期の大工棟梁(とうりょう)。紀州（和歌山県）の出身。父吉政を始祖とする大工の家系で、父は豊臣(とよとみ)家に仕え、方広寺大仏殿、聚楽第(じゅらくだい)などの造営に携わる。政信は江戸幕府に仕え、1632年（寛永9）に幕府作事方大棟梁となる。その著『匠明(しょうめい)』五巻は木割(きわり)の秘伝書として著名。彼の手がけた建築のうち、和歌山市和歌浦の天満神社本殿（1606）、日光輪王寺常行堂（1619）、川越(かわごえ)喜多院多宝塔（1638）、日光石造宝塔（1642）などが現存する。
