Shibecha [town] - Shibecha
A town in Kawakami District, eastern Hokkaido. It occupies the midstream of the Kushiro River, which originates from Lake Kussharo, and is served by the Senmo Main Line. The Kushiro River basin is covered with low-lying marshes, and dairy farming is the main industry, but forestry and freshwater fishing are also carried out. The area around Lake Touro is a breeding ground for red-crowned cranes (a special natural monument). In 1980, part of the Kushiro Marshland was registered as a Ramsar Convention wetland. 1099.37 km2 . Population 8285 (2010).

北海道東部,川上郡の町。屈斜路(くっしゃろ)湖に発する釧路川の中流部を占め,釧網(せんもう)本線が通じている。釧路川流域は低湿地が広く,酪農を基幹産業とするが,林業,淡水漁業も行われる。塘路(とうろ)湖付近はタンチョウヅル(特別天然記念物)繁殖地。1980年に釧路湿原の一部がラムサール条約登録湿地となる。1099.37km2。8285人(2010)。
