Born: April 26, 1898 in Seville
[Died] December 14, 1984, Madrid Spanish poet. Belonging to the "Generation of 1927". Laureate of the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1977. A sickly poet, he remained in his country even after the civil war and was exiled from the country. His works include La destrucción o el amor (1935) and Historia del corazón (54), which have a quiet melancholy underlay on themes such as love and death, humans and the earth, as well as philosophical works he wrote in his later years on the themes of death, knowledge, and religious experiences, such as Poemas de la consumación (68) and Diálogos del conocimiento (74). He combined the unrestrained style of Romanticism with Surrealism, and considered poetry to be a process toward absolute reality manifested through images and symbols.
