Eumathios Makrembolites (English spelling)

[literature]
Examples of so-called literary works in verse and prose (although the boundary between the two was not always consciously recognized) include epic poems such as the Tales of Dionysus by Nonnos (5th century), which was based on mythology, the Antehomerica, Homerica and Posthomerica by Iōannēs Tzetzēs (after 1110-after 1180), the Hymn to Heraclius by Georgios Pisidēs (?-631 or 634), which was based on historical fact, and the verse chronicle by Konstantinos Manassēs (c. 1130-87). In the field of romance, the fantastical love romances that suddenly blossomed in the 12th century, following the style of Achilles Tatios and Heliodorus in late antiquity, include "Aristandes and Kallithea" by Constantine Manasses in 15-12 syllable verse, "Rodante and Dosikles" by Theodōros Prodromos (12th century), "Drosilla and Charicles" by Niketas Eugenianos (12th century), and "Hysmine and Hysminias" by Eumathios Makrembolitēs (late 12th century) in prose form. In addition, many Koine hagiographical works also belong to the genre of romance.
