Otaki waterfall
This is an old village area in the west of Chichibu City, occupying the area around the source of the Arakawa River in the Chichibu Mountains, at the western end of Saitama Prefecture. It is on the border with Yamanashi Prefecture, Nagano Prefecture, and Gunma Prefecture. In 1889, Otaki Village, Nakatsugawa Village, and Mimine Village were merged to form Otaki Village. In 2005, it was merged with Chichibu City, Yoshida Town, and Arakawa Village to form Chichibu City. Along the prefectural border from the south to the west, there are a series of 2000m-class high mountains such as Mt. Kumotori (2017m), Mt. Oobora (2069m), Mt. Kobushigatake (2475m), Mt. Sanbo (2483m), and Mt. Mikuni (1826m). Lake Chichibu, created by the Futase Dam, as well as Nakatsu Gorge and Mimine Shrine are located here. The entire area belongs to Chichibu-Tama-Kai National Park. At the junction of Jumonji Pass and Karisaka Pass, there is the remains of Tochimoto Barrier, a nationally designated historic site.
