1808‐35 French maker of physical machines and instruments. He is famous for constructing the first generator in 1832. The principle of the generator is based on the law of electromagnetic induction discovered by M. Faraday in 1831. Pixi's generator of 1832 produced alternating current by manually turning a permanent magnet, and later, following a suggestion from AM Ampere, he added a commutator to produce direct current. Pixi's generators can be seen today at the Science Museum in London and the Deutsches Museum in Munich. These generators were mainly used for physics demonstrations.
