Albertus Magnus

Japanese: アルベルトゥス・マグヌス(英語表記)Albertus Magnus
Albertus Magnus
Around 1200-80
Scholastic theologian and naturalist. Born in Lauingen, southern Germany, to a family of knights, he joined the Dominican Order while studying at the University of Padua, and after studying and teaching theology at monasteries in Cologne and elsewhere, became a professor at the Faculty of Theology at the University of Paris in 1245. Around this time, Thomas Aquinas became a disciple of Albertus. In 1248, he moved to Cologne to found the Dominican theological university Studium Generale, the precursor to the University of Cologne. After this, except for a period when he was active as Bishop of Regensburg and a theologian attached to the Papacy, he was mainly based in Cologne and engaged in writing, teaching, and mediation and reconciliation activities.
