Shiseido is the number one cosmetics manufacturer in Japan and the fourth largest in the world. Shiseido Pharmacy was founded in Ginza in 1872 as Japan's first private Western-style pharmacy. It became a limited partnership in 1922 and was reorganized as a joint-stock company in 1927. It produces cosmetics, soap, toothpaste, and other products, and has developed its own sales chain. It has established a production and sales system overseas and operates in over 60 countries, mainly in China and Southeast Asia. It is particularly focused on expanding its business in China, and is accelerating the introduction of dedicated cosmetics and the development of a sales network. It has spun off its toiletries business. It is also committed to enriching its corporate culture, operating cultural facilities and supporting academic and artistic activities.
