...After the 15th century, gypsies came to Spain and took up jobs in Andalusia, such as gamblers, blacksmiths, basket makers, confectionery sellers, and entertainers. They settled in the outskirts and working-class areas of Seville, Granada, and other small and medium-sized cities, and at first they continued to sing and dance as a form of entertainment for their friends. However, in the second half of the 19th century, the appeal of their unique music and dance began to attract the attention of ordinary Spanish people, and bars with stages for these, called "café cantante," began to appear in towns throughout Andalusia, and they flourished.
