Japanese: シギ(鷸∥鴫) - シギ（英語表記）sandpiper

A general term for birds of the family Scolopacidae and several related families in the order Charadriiformes. It includes the family Rostratulidae (2 species in the world), the family Scolopacidae (81 species), the family Recurvirostridae (7 species), and the family Phalaropodidae (3 species). In the narrow sense, it may refer only to birds of the family Scolopacidae.

Total length is 12-61cm. The body size varies, and the beak is generally thin and long, and can be straight, curved downward, curved upward, or spatula-shaped.
