Iinashigawa River

A river that flows through eastern Shimane Prefecture. It originates from Mt. Tamamine in the Chugoku Mountains, flows northeast through Yasugi City, and empties into Lake Nakaumi. It is 42 kilometers long. It is also called the Hitagawa River in the upper reaches, the Fubegawa River in the middle reaches, and the Todagawa River in the main stream. Since ancient times, it has been an underground river due to the mining of iron sand, and has undergone remarkable changes in its river course. In recent years, the remains of a medieval castle town have been excavated from the riverbed. The Fube and Yamasa dams are located in the upper reaches, and horticulture is thriving in the downstream delta.

島根県東部を流れる川。中国山地の玉峰(たまみね)山を源とし、安来(やすぎ)市を北東流して中海(なかうみ)に注ぐ。延長42キロメートル。上流は比田川、中流は布部川(ふべがわ)、本流は富田川(とだがわ)ともよぶ。古来、砂鉄採取による天井川で、河道変遷が著しい。近年河床から中世城下町遺構の発掘がなされた。上流部に布部、山佐ダムがあり、下流デルタでは園芸農業が盛ん。
