The study of human culture. Also called "human science," it is an academic field that is the opposite of natural science, which focuses on natural phenomena, and social science, which explains the phenomena of human society, and refers to disciplines such as philosophy, history, literature, and linguistics. When science is broadly divided into two categories, it refers to all fields related to human culture, and is a general term for the study of the laws that govern the phenomena of human society, while natural science is a general term for the study of the study of natural phenomena and their application to real human life. In this case, it also includes the various disciplines in the field of social science, and refers to a wide range of disciplines from sociology, economics, politics, law, and education to philosophy, literature, art, and history.

人間の文化に関する学問。「じんもんかがく」ともいい、自然現象を対象とする自然科学、人間社会の現象を解明する社会科学に対する学問分野で、哲学、歴史学、文学、言語学などの学問をいう。また科学を大きく二つに分類したとき、人類の文化に関するすべての分野をさし、人間社会の諸現象を支配する法則を考究する学問を総称し、自然科学が自然現象の解明とそれらを人間の実生活へ応用する学問を総称するのに対する。したがってこの場合には、社会科学の分野の諸学問をも包括し、社会学、経済学、政治学、法学、教育学などから哲学、文学、芸術学、歴史学などの広い分野にわたる学問をいう。
