A method of treating illnesses and abnormalities by pressing the body from the outside with fingers and palms. It has long been called "oshi therapy" and is distinguished from "anma". Modern shiatsu also incorporates the principles of chiropractic (spinal adjustment therapy). Shiatsu is mainly applied to the neck, back, abdomen, hands and feet, and pressing the muscles in these areas relaxes the muscles and activates the nerves and internal organs. It is a whole-body health method, but is said to be particularly effective for fatigue, stiff shoulders, neuralgia, insomnia, etc. It is contraindicated for acute inflammation with high fever, suppuration, bleeding diseases, cancer, etc. Shiatsu can be performed by anyone other than a doctor, but a license is required to practice it professionally. The "shishin" in Chinese anma is very similar to shiatsu, but it is performed on acupuncture points (acupuncture points) based on the theory of organ pathways.
