One of Japan's animation production companies. Officially known as Sunrise Inc., its headquarters are in Suginami, Tokyo. Founded in 1972 as Sunrise Studios, it became Nippon Sunrise Inc. in 1976 and changed to its current name in 1987. It has been a subsidiary of the Bandai Group since 1994. It has produced many hit sci-fi robot anime such as Mobile Suit Gundam and Armored Trooper Votoms, and has many tie-ups with toys and games. Other titles it has worked on include City Hunter, Sergeant Keroro, Gintama, and Love Live!. It is a full member of the Association of Japanese Animations.

An American film produced in 1927. Original title: Sunrise. Directed by F.W. Murnau, starring George O'Brien, Janet Gaynor, Margaret Livingston and others. Won the first Academy Award for Best Actress (Janet Gaynor), Best Cinematography, and Best Artistic Excellence.
