Thermal equator

A line of longitude that connects the points on the Earth with the hottest annual average temperature. Because the Earth's continents and oceans are irregularly distributed, the thermal equator does not necessarily coincide with the geographic equator (the line of 0 degrees latitude). In the Northern Hemisphere summer, the thermal equator is at about 20 degrees north latitude, and in the Northern Hemisphere winter, it is near 0 degrees latitude. The average position of the thermal equator throughout the year is at about 10 degrees north latitude.

地球上の経度線上で年平均気温のもっとも高い地点を結んだ線。地球上には大陸と海洋とが不規則に分布しているから、熱赤道と地理学上の赤道（緯度0度の線）とはかならずしも一致しない。北半球の夏には、熱赤道は北緯約20度にあり、北半球の冬には緯度0度付近にある。一年中の熱赤道の平均の位置は北緯約10度にある。
