…At first glance, these birds resemble plovers, but they are slightly larger than lapwings and have large eyes. Their English name is thick-knee. There are three genera and nine species in this family, and they are widely distributed in the tropics of the Old World, including southern Europe, Africa, India, South Asia, Australia, and South America, but they do not live in Japan.
