Originally it was a magical ritual, but in the early modern period, when belief in the various magical powers of the heads of the dead faded, it came to be used as one of the media to express and convey messages such as the will of the ruler, orders to the people, warnings, and edification. It is communication through "things." In 1660, after the Puritan Revolution, Charles II of England restored the monarchy, and as the person responsible for the execution of his father, Charles I, dug up the graves of Cromwell, Ireton, and others who were already dead, and impaled their heads on pikes and displayed them on display. This is a typical example of this, as it places meaning on the heads of those who are already dead.
