Sanzijing (Three Characters Classic)

Japanese: 三字経 - さんじきょう（英語表記）San-zi-jing

A representative text used in village schools in China to teach children how to read and write. It is said to have been written by Wang Yinglin of the Song dynasty, but there are also theories that it was written by Ku Shizi at the end of the Song dynasty or a sequel by Li Zhen of the Qing dynasty. It has three characters per line, rhymes, and explains human ethics and other common sense from a Confucian perspective. It was brought to Japan, and includes the Sanzijing Exegesis, Sanzijing Dojikun, and Honcho Sanzijing.

中国で，子供に字を教えるために村塾で使用された代表的なテキスト。宋の王応麟撰と伝えられるが，宋末の区適子の撰，清の黎貞の続成とする説もある。毎句3字で，韻をふみ，人倫その他の常識的なことを儒教的立場で説いたもの。日本に伝えられ，『三字経訓詁解』『三字経童子訓』『本朝三字経』などがある。
