...Looking at the history of in-company education and training in modern Japan, there was an apprenticeship system in the Meiji period, and in the mid-Meiji period some companies also established a probationary worker system. From the Taisho and early Showa periods through the war, advanced companies fully established in-company training systems for skilled workers, which developed from the trainee system. These included the traditional apprenticeship system, what could be called in-company industrial schools, and in-company engineering schools for training foremen. During World War II, these were renamed to youth schools and the like. After the war, in-company education and training became better organized and systematized in both name and reality, and we will discuss this period below. ...
