A Yugoslav linguist. Slovenian. He studied law in Vienna. He served as a censor for the Slovenian language, director of the court library, and advisor, and died in Vienna. He published the first Slovenian grammar book in German (Ljubljana, 1809) and assisted Karadzic in collecting Serbian folk songs, but he was too inclined toward Jansenism and made the mistake of not acknowledging his fellow countryman F. Prešeren, who was creating a new literature in the vernacular. [Tanaka Issei]

ユーゴスラビアの言語学者。スロベニア人。ウィーンで法律を学ぶ。スロベニア語などの検閲官，宮廷図書館館長，顧問官をつとめ，ウィーンにて没す。ドイツ語で最初のスロベニア語文法書を出版したり(リュブリャナ，1809)，カラジッチのセルビア民謡収集を援助するが，ジャンセニスムに傾きすぎて，俗語で新文学をつくりつつあった同郷人F.プレシェレンを認めないという誤りもおかした。【田中一生】
