A nickname for the Imperial Japanese Navy's A6M Zero (standardized in 1940). Also known as the Zero Fighter. At the beginning of the Pacific War, it was the world's best fighter, with excellent dogfighting capabilities that made the Allied air forces fearful. It was designed by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, with Jiro Horikoshi as chief designer. A prototype was made in 1938, and with repeated improvements, Mitsubishi and Nakajima Aircraft produced 10,425 of them, the most of any Japanese aircraft. The Model 52 had 1,130 horsepower and a top speed of 565 km/h. → Related items Fighter aircraft | Nakajima Aircraft Co., Ltd. | Hayabusa Source : Heibonsha Encyclopedia About MyPedia Information |
