One offering - Ikkonryo

Japanese: 一献料 - いっこんりょう

"Ikken" refers to a small drinking party, but from around the mid-Kamakura period, in order to gain an advantage in lawsuits, it became customary to invite shogunate magistrates and invite them to drinks and snacks, and in the Muromachi period, it became customary to exempt manors from various taxes such as tansen, and to give ikkenryo, sake and snacks fees, and keisen to magistrates, shugo, and shugodai during lawsuits. The magistrates also used this as a regular source of income. In manors, it was customary for half of the ikkenryo to be paid from annual taxes, and the other half to be paid by the peasants. 〈一献〉は小酒宴のことであるが，鎌倉中期ごろから訴訟を有利に進めるため，幕府の奉行人を招き，酒肴（しゆこう）･一献を勧めることが行われるようになり，室町時代には荘園に対する反(段)銭など諸賦課の免除，訴訟のさいに奉行人や守護･守護代に一献料･酒肴料･礼銭などを贈るのが通例となる。奉行人らもそれを恒常的な収入とした。荘園において，一献料は年貢から半分支出され，百姓が半分負担するのが恒例であった。【網野善彦】
