This string quartet was formed in Reggio, Northern Italy in 1945. When it was first established it was called the New Italian String Quartet, but in 1951 it changed to its current name. It attracted attention early on for its beautiful tone, clear ensemble sound, and excellent sense of form, and gained worldwide fame after a successful concert tour of the United States in 1951. It visited Japan for the first time in 1973 (Showa 48). [Yoshio Miyama] Source: Shogakukan Encyclopedia Nipponica About Encyclopedia Nipponica Information | Legend |
