Sano
[1] A place name in the southern part of Tochigi Prefecture. During the Edo Period, it developed as a castle town of the Sano Domain with a 16,000 koku yield, and as a post station on the Nikko Reiheishi Kaido road. In addition to the traditional textile industry, centered on cotton shrinkage , various other industries flourished. It was incorporated as a city in 1943. [2] A place name in Takasaki City, Gunma Prefecture. On the north bank of the Karasu River. Known as the birthplace of Sano Genzaemon Tokoyo, the author of the Noh song " Hachigi ." *Man'yoshu (late 8th century) 14-3406 "The stalks of Kamitsukeno and Sa-no are broken, and I will wait, even if they do not come this year." [一] 栃木県南部の地名。江戸時代は佐野藩一万六千石の城下町、日光例幣使街道の宿駅として発展。在来工業の綿縮(めんちぢみ)を中心とした繊維工業のほか、各種工業が盛ん。昭和一八年(一九四三)市制。[二] 群馬県高崎市の地名。烏川の北岸。謡曲「鉢木」の佐野源左衛門常世の故地として知られる。※万葉(8C後)一四・三四〇六「上毛野(かみつけの)左野(サの)の茎立(くくたち)折りはやし吾は待たむゑ今年来ずとも」[三] 和歌山県新宮市の地名。熊野街道に沿い、王子社があった。古くは狭野。※万葉(8C後)三・二六五「苦しくも降り来る雨か神(みわ)の崎狭野(さの)の渡りに家もあらなくに」
