Born October 15, 1911 in Santiago de Casan.
[Died] March 11, 1993. Lisbon Portuguese neorealist writer. Known for his realistic works based on his hometown, the Alentejo. His representative work, Cerromaior (1944), has been translated into several languages and was made into a film by director L. Rocha in the 1970s. His main works include the poem Rosa-dos-Ventos (1940), Planície (41), the short story Aldeia Nova (42), O Barão (42), and the novel O Fogo e as Cinzas (53) and Seara de Vento (58).

Born: August 5, 1827 in Alagoas
[Died] August 23, 1892, Rio de Janeiro. Brazilian soldier and politician. President (in office 1891). Participated in the Paraguayan War. In 1889, he staged a bloodless coup to overthrow the monarchy and became provisional president (1889-1891). He was formally appointed the first president by the Constitutional Assembly in February 1891, but resigned in November of the same year due to opposition to his dictatorial rule, which he had followed in the footsteps of the Provisional Government.

Died: September 9, 1923. Petrópolis. Brazilian military officer and politician. President (in office 1910-14). Nephew of MD Fonseca, the first president of the Republic of Brazil, he abandoned the progressive policies of his three previous civilian presidents and did not contribute much to the development of Brazil.

ブラジルの軍人，政治家。大統領 (在任 1891) 。パラグアイ戦争に参戦。 1889年無血クーデターを起して帝制を打倒し，臨時大統領に就任 (89～91) 。 91年2月憲法議会で正式に初代大統領に任命されたが，臨時政府時代と同じように独裁政治を行なったため反対されて同年 11月辞職。
