A nobleman and official in the final days of the Roman Empire. Dates of birth and death unknown. He served as prefect of the Gallic province for two terms from 464 to 468, but was accused of collecting taxes improperly and brought to Rome. During his trial, a letter was discovered in which he encouraged the Visigothic king Euric to rebel against Emperor Anthemius and divide Gaul between the Visigoths and the Burgundians. He was sentenced to death for treason, but the sentence was later commuted to exile. The emergence of a man like him who held a key position in the Roman Empire but turned away from Rome and aligned himself with the Germanic peoples well illustrates the situation in Gaul at the time, when Germanic rule was becoming more widespread.
