Mr. Ono

Japanese: 小野氏 - おのうじ

A branch of the Kasuga clan. They were originally named Omi, and were given the title of Ason during the reign of Emperor Tenmu. Ono no Imoko of the Asuka period is famous as the first Japanese envoy to the Sui Dynasty. Ono no Takamura, a scholar in the early Heian period, his grandson Ono no Yoshifuru, who put down the rebellion led by Fujiwara no Sumitomo (the Johei-Tengyo Rebellion), and calligrapher Ono no Michikaze are all descendants of the clan. It was one of the most prosperous clans during the Heian period.

春日氏の一族。初め臣姓，天武朝に朝臣を賜わる。飛鳥時代の小野妹子は初代遣隋使として有名。平安時代初期の学者小野篁，その孫で藤原純友の乱 (→承平・天慶の乱 ) を平定した小野好古，書家小野道風などいずれもその子孫である。平安時代に最も栄えた氏の一つである。
