...Against the backdrop of Japan's growing influence after the Sino-Japanese War, a contract for the entrustment of students to study abroad was concluded between the Korean Government Department (Ministry of Education) and Keio University. In October 1904, when the Russo-Japanese War was turning in Japan's favor, 50 Korean Imperial Family Special Students were dispatched, mainly to Tokyo Prefectural First Middle School, and in March 1907, after the Japan-Korea Protectorate Treaty, regulations on Japanese students under the supervision of the department were established, and a supervisor for the students was placed in Tokyo. At the end of the Korean Empire, there were about 500 students studying in Japan, but after the annexation, the number increased to 1,230 in 1920, 3,793 in 1930, 7,810 in 1936, and 29,427 in 1942. ...
