Kugeta

Japanese: 久下田 - くげた
Kugeta

A district in the southern part of Moka City, Tochigi Prefecture. Formerly Kugeta Town. In the Middle Ages, it developed as a castle town of a subsidiary castle of Mizutani Banryu (Lord of Shimodate Castle), and in the early modern period, it was under the direct control of the shogunate and came under the control of the Shimodate magistrate, and flourished as a producer of Kugeta cotton. After the Meiji period, it became a distribution center for agricultural products from the surrounding areas, and in 1912 (Meiji 45), the government-run Moka Light Line (now the Moka Railway) was opened and Kugeta Station was opened. National Routes 294 and 408 run parallel to the railway.
