Nadja - Naja (English spelling)

Nadja - Naja (English spelling)

A prose work by the French poet Breton, published in 1928. In October 1926, the author meets a woman named Nadja and, attracted by her charm, wanders around Paris with her. With her guidance, who is as free as a fairy and even seems to have clairvoyance, the author receives various revelations. However, Nadja is deemed insane and committed to a psychiatric hospital, where he suffers a significant setback. Not only does the work embody the "surreal" inherent in reality by entrusting it to the actions of a real woman, but it also features urgent considerations on art and life and an objective descriptive style that makes this possible, making it not only a masterpiece of Surrealism, but also a work that represents the pinnacle of contemporary French literature. A "completely revised edition by the author" was published in 1963.
